Jill Standley
artist and crafter
I’ve been a Monmouthshire resident for several years and I find it an inspirational area in which to live and be creative.
For most of my adult life I’ve painted as a hobby, specialising in watercolour.
I’ve recently begun to experiment with mixed media when it’s appropriate for the effect I’m trying to achieve. I make greetings cards from my artwork.
Since completing a short course in the creative use of textiles I’ve been making applique cushions. I use mostly natural materials such as linen, cotton and silk to make vibrant pictures in fabric. I also make small useful items such as animal doorstops and decorative pincushions.
My choice of subject is varied and includes flowers and wildlife from my garden, local landscapes and iconic buildings. A hydrangea flower head from outside my window inspired a painting, a card and a cushion design.
