Mary Cousins makes functional ceramics in stoneware and porcelain.
All her work is wheel thrown, sometimes altered for special effects. She makes her own glazes from raw materials, they are then high fired. She believes that ovenware and tableware which is hand made is very special and everything should be a pleasure to eat and drink out of.
The range includes gratin dishes, cheese dishes, nesting bowls, mugs and jugs.
The stoneware work is often soft colours with a clear glaze over them or blues and pinks peeping through a soft white glaze. The porcelain work is often glazed in a lovely pale opal blue, maybe dotted with a darker blue, or alternatively, a stormy blue grey glaze, sometimes laid over red on teapot lids. Some stylish little porcelain pots are enhanced with variegated green and gold brass leaf.
